TCA Telugu Badi started its operations at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple, Sugarland in 2008, with the objective to teach Telugu language to all the children born and brought up here in the greater Houston area. It started by Gitanjali with the help of her mother Aruna Gubba with 6 enthusiastic children at 1 location and now grew to be nearly 150 students strong and operating successfully and independently at 3 different locations- Sugarland, Cypress and Katy

There are many dedicated volunteers and linguists and language enthusiasts behind this benevolent and arduous effort. Smt Aruna Gubba, Sri Sai Rachakonda, Smt Vanaja Konduri, Smt Indira Cheruvu, Smt. Pallavi Chillappa, Sri Raghu Dhulipala, Smt.Aruna and Sri Varma Gottumukkala are some of those highly dedicated volunteers whose contributions and efforts strengthened the foundation and helped Telugu Badi Sugarland stand firm and grow tall.

Telugu Badi team incorporated the syllabus from Telugubadi, Albany with their permission started following their textbooks and curriculum

In 2014, Sri Kondal Rao and Sri Vinod Udthawar started Telugu badi Cypress, so as to cater to the Telugu children in and around Cypress area. It started off with 45 Students and grew substantially year after year, reaching nearly 80 students by 2018.With Sri Vinod Udthawar as the Administrator/co-ordinator and teacher, Smt. Sushma Maddineni, Smt. Annapurna Pulluri, Sri Ram Nyshadham, Sri VasuKiran Chilukuri, Sri. Rajender Anumula and Smt. Sudha Allada have been working with commitment and utmost dedication to teach students our mother tongue.

In 2016, Telugu Badi Katy opened its doors with Sri Murali Lanka, Smt. Mahathi, Smt. Indira, Smt.Aparna Nyshadham and others volunteering enthusiastically..

We, at Telugu badi, believe that language is the thread that binds us to our roots, our culture. It helps us understand the significance of our traditions. Hence while teaching the students how to speak, read and write in Telugu, we also focus on our culture, our festivals and the significance behind them. Some volunteers go beyond their call of duty, write scripts and tutor students to enact the roles, help them practice the dialogues and perform during TCA’s Sankranthi and Ugadi events. Children get to know about our culture, the practices and customs back home and the reason behind them.

Teachers not only teach the syllabus from the textbooks, but they prepare vocabulary words on various subjects including body parts, general vocabulary, record audio for stories, poems (from Vemana, Sumathi satakams and pothanabhagavatam) along with its meaning so as to facilitate the learning.

Team Telugu badi comprises of a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers whose sole aim is to see our beautiful language, Telugu spread its wings and soar high, and for that we will continue to strive.

I think the curriculum, teacher interaction, everything is really good. The blog is very user friendly and has all the information at one place. The class location being so close, it really encourages us parents also to send kids for the class. I cannot imagine taking my kid to Sugarland from here for the class.
